Frequently asked questions:

 1. What's the difference between "high speed floor buffers" and "low speed floor buffers"?

Answer:

"low speed floor buffers" are for both buffing and scrubbing and generally run about 175 rpm's or "revolutions per minute". RPM's are how fast the floor pad or brush is turning, ie, 175 times per minute. Low speed buffers are both a "buffer" and a "scrubber". That is, as a "buffer" the machine can be used on clean, waxed floors to improve the shine or gloss. As a "scrubber" it can be used with soap and water on  the floor to "scrub" or clean the floor with excessive splashing on the walls!

"high speed floor buffers"  turn a very fast 1500 to 2000 RPM's and can only be used on clean, waxed floors to improve the shine or gloss. The extra "speed" in "high speed" increases the "gloss" on the floor and allows for a choice of "harder" floor finishes to be used which both last longer and shine brighter.

While many folks choose the "low speed buffer" as the one tool to fit all, the added benefits of having the additional choice of a "high speed buffer" will increase the "gloss" and the favorable comments!

2. Should I buy a "canister" carpet extractor or a "self contained" carpet extractor?

"Canister" carpet extractors use a "tank" along with a hose and wand to clean carpet. Pumps "squirt" the water with shampoo chemical into the carpet knap and then the "wand" moves back and forth turning the knap and removing the now "dirty" water from the carpet. They are offered in many "gallon" different sizes for both small areas and big jobs. Flexibility includes great mobility and the options of cleaning stairs and upholstery.

"Self contained" carpet extractors are a large unit that doesn't need the hose and wand because it "squirts" cleaning solution directly from the bottom of the machine into the carpet, then "scrubs" or agitates with a high speed brush then vacuums away the "dirty" water in one motion. Large areas of carpet can be cleaned much faster with "self contained" carpet extractors vs. "canister" carpet extractors. Additionally, many "self contained" units now offer the convenience of a "hose and wand or hand tools" for staires and upholstery.

The real limiting factor of your choice is "size" and "price". Firstly, "size", with the best option for large areas being the always large "self contained" carpet extractors over the "canister" style that can be very small if need be for area or cost. Initial "price" favors the smaller "canister" models however.

So my recommendation is to look at "self contained" carpet extractors as your first choice unless the "size" or the "price" leaves you with a "canister" model as your preferred choice.
